Diana Paton is a Caribbean historian and author of The Cultural Politics of Obeah: Religion, Modernity, and Colonialism in the Caribbean World. She designed the research project which collected the material on this site and collected many of the cases. She is William Robertson Professor of History at Edinburgh University.

Gemma Romain is a historian specialising in Caribbean and Black British history. Her book Race, Sexuality and Identity in Birtain and Jamaica: The Biography of Patrick Nelson, 1916-1962 will be published by Bloomsbury Academic in 2017. She edited most of the cases on this website. 

Maarit Forde worked with Diana on an earlier phase of this project, funded by the Leverhulme Trust. She researched obeah prosecutions and prosecutions under the Shouters Prohibition Ordinance in the Port of Spain Gazette, co-organized the conference that led to the publication of Obeah and Other Powers, and co-edited the book. She is currently Lecturer in Cultural Studies at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, Trinidad.

Jennifer Kain worked as a researcher, collecting trials from the Jamaica Gleaner, while studying for her PhD in History at Northumbria University. She is currently Pearsall Fellow in Naval and Maritime History at the Institute for Historical Research, London.

Helen McKee worked as a researcher, collecting trials from the Jamaica Gleaner, while studying for her PhD at Newcastle University on 'Negotiating Freedom in the Circum-Caribbean World: The Jamaican Maroons and Creek Nation Compared'. She is currently a Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History, working on a project entitled 'Hardships there are but the land is green and the sun shineth': The Legal History of Post-Emancipation Land Ownership in Jamaica. 

Suzie Thomas collected material for the project from the Jamaica Gleaner while a PhD student at the International Centre for Culture and Heritage Studies, Newcastle University. She is now University Lecturer in Museology at the University of Helsinki, Finland.
